Dylan Johnson is a drummer, multi instrumentalist and composer with over a decade of experience performing and teaching in a variety of styles of music, including Jazz, Classical, Latin, Rock, Pop, Folk, Bluegrass, Hip Hop, and R&B. He has a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, and is currently performing in the Denver music scene with these artists: Dandu, The Other Black, Retrofette, Cassidy Bacon, Sinkra, Venus Cruz and Britanny Williams. He has recorded drums on the following albums: Dandu’s “Caught Between”, Petals of Spain’s “Petals of Spain” and “Daydream”, Laura Bergstein’s “Re-Imagining the Beatles”, and Kudzu’s “Kudzu”. He has also performed on some of the biggest stages in Colorado, including Red Rocks, The Pepsi Center, and Chautauqua Auditorium.
As an educator, Dylan believes that teaching proper technique is essential to opening the doors to the more creative aspects of music. Once a strong footing in technique is established, a student gains the freedom to express themselves musically. Being brought up in the jazz school of music, Dylan places an emphasis on learning to improvise, and not just play what’s on the page. Dylan’s passion is music, and is thrilled to be able to share his passion with his students.
